Systems Development

In today’s fast moving environment, an organization’s software development requirements focus on a few key areas of performance. Between the desire to bring the product to market in a vastly shortened period of time to the desire to leverage the latest technologies, Guident will assist your company with creating a robust, scalable and adaptable solution to your business needs.

We achieve your goals using a proven methodology and a process of test driven development to meet and exceed your provided requirements. Furthermore, we communicate with your organization at every step of the way, thus ensuring an orderly hand over of the code base once the work is complete.

An organization working to bring forth a completed software package must implement an approach with sufficient robustness and flexibility to be capable of adapting to the ever changing business surroundings of the modern globally interconnected environment. That strategy may include some of the following elements:

  • Software Development
  • .Net/C# Development
  • Java Development
  • Oracle Portal
  • Middleware

Each of these areas involves keeping senior management, the business stakeholders as well as the development staff moving towards the same goal, coordinating highly specialized resources and ensuring that all the needed resources are available at the right time. Once these elements are in place, an organization will progress from a potentially risky and precarious position to a vantage point from which their vision can be implemented.

Middleware

“No man is an island”

— John Donne

No organization is, either. In this globally interconnected world, nearly all projects will require some sort of interface with an external group or groups. These interactions may be a simple exchange of flat files or may be an asynchronous message based process. Regardless of the specific method of implementation, using middleware will; insulate your organization from any changes with your external partner, simplify your operational model, and reduce the cost of supporting alterations in future versions of the application.

Within the Oracle framework, some of the more common middleware solutions include:

  • Streams/Advanced Queuing — AQ allows direct, asynchronous message based connectivity between an Oracle database and any other messaging solution that can support asynchronous messaging (including IBM MQ Series, TIB/Rendezvous and Microsoft MSMQ).
  • Fusion — Fusion is Oracle’s general middleware environment. It uses adapters to connect to almost any protocol that could be desired — including AQ.

Using middleware allows for an organization to both accept and send data to nearly any external group safe, securely and in a controllable fashion.

Oracle Portal

Oracle’s Portal product continues to develop into a robust infrastructure solution, suitable for use in providing a robust environment for both internal and external customers. However, proper installation and configuration (particularly with all of the dependent parts) can be somewhat tricky. Guident has a long history and extensive experience with the Oracle Portal Technology and a number of successful enterprise deployments; we can bring our dearly acquired expertise to assist your organization in achieving your business needs.

Guident also has extensive experience with integrating Portal into an enterprise environment. To be more specific, we can guide your company in connecting the security layer of Portal to an existing LDAP environment (Microsoft Active Directory, Open LDAP, and others). Extending this connection to a single sign on configuration can be achieved with a limited amount of additional effort.

Identity provisioning and end-to-end management of security information looms ever larger in an environment where authentication and tracability play a greater role in an organization’s responsibilities. Sarbanes-Oxley (and other legislative requirements) demand additional transparency in account administration. Guident’s experience with Oracle’s Identity Management suite of tools will allow your company to deploy a successful, robust identity provisioning solution into your enterprise with a minimum of time and expense.

PL/SQL & SQL

PL/SQL remains the mainstay of Oracle engineering. A tried and true language of data manipulation, crafting efficient, scalable and robust solutions can challenge the best of organizations. Guident’s extensive experience- with successful deployments of enterprise scale custom code solutions- can be leveraged in helping your company achieve your business goals.

From the subtle changes in a segment of code to more efficiently transmit information from the database to the application to a wholesale refactoring of the codebase to support some of the more extreme operating parameters, Guident will be there to chart the optimal strategy for your organization. Some of the specialty areas in which Guident can be of assistance include:

  • Real time processing
  • Customized Extract/Transformation/Loading (ETL) processing
  • Document processing/transformation
  • Geospatial processing

For these subjects — and many others — Guident stands as the hallmark of Oracle development.
